The Government of Bangladesh has signed
the charter of UNCRC and implemented some of the rights of the children,
which have been written in the ‘National plan of Action (NPA)’.
Child Rights Week is being organised every year. Information materials
on UNCRC are being produced and disseminated countrywide every year for
raising awareness of people. Some NGOs also have been working on the rights
of the children and trying to implement some projects for establishing
the rights of the children. Contributions of NGOs in the areas of immunisation,
primary education and arsenic mitigation have been recognised. Bangladesh
Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF) as an Apex body of 200 NGOs has been working
for promoting and protecting rights of children in the country since 1991.
Besides, BSAF has been trying continuously to influence the government
to implement all the rights of children those were signed by government
in the charter of UNCRC.
Though Government, NGOs and BSAF have undertaken many programmes for raising
awareness on UNCRC, still there is a long way to cover on improving the
situation on child rights in Bangladesh. The effort and achievement so
far made is far behind the actual need for the improved situation, which
includes ECD, Child trafficking, Worst form of Child Labour, HIV/AIDS,
Jail and Vagrant home, Abuse & sexual exploitation and Participation
of children.
Considering the facts, BSAF has formulated
a project, which if implemented, will be able to bring in a qualitative
change in the life of deprived children. BSAF being a child rights organisation
has the mandate for initiating programme for improving the quality of
the lives of the children by ensuring child rights through its member
organisation. |
